In our pursuit of happiness and living life to its fullest, many of us have a list of things we want to see, do, or achieve, while we can. Whether you have a few things in mind, a general goal in life or maybe an actual bucket list, most of us can name at least one thing they dream of doing.
I always enjoy hearing what it is that people would like to do. You get to know someone a little bit better, and it might make you dream yourself or be grateful for what you already have.
Why make a Bucket List?
My memory is terrible, and on top of that, I LOVE making lists. So for me, making a bucket list was a very logical thing to implement in my day-dreaming sessions. If you have a fantastic memory and do not share my love for lists, you might still enjoy your own bucket list. When you have an overview of the things you have done and hope to be doing, it can work like a low-maintenance photo-album or a diary. If you are in the mood to dream or reminisce, you just peruse your bucket list.
Bucket lists are also great to make sure you push yourself to experience new things and to help you enjoy the little things in life. One of my favourite things to do, while spending time with my best friends, is to cross off items of our bucket lists together. You share something that is important to at least one of you, and you might be pleasantly surprised!
Types of Bucket Lists
Because I also enjoy scribbling in notebooks and prefer physical books over ebooks, I have an actual, hard-cover bucket list. At the moment, it is sitting next to the keyboard on my desk. Whenever something comes to mind, I write it down, and when I am in the mood to do something fun or new, I flip through the pages and pick something from my list.
If you are never away from your phone, don’t feel like dragging extra stuff around or if there is some other reason you don’t like notebooks; a digital list is always great! You can access it from any device, no matter where you are and you save a few trees.
Now, my memory is terrible! But if you have a fantastic memory and prefer to keep a mental list; obviously, that will work just as well.
What to put on your Bucket List
I may have a lot of things on my bucket list that would not make it onto someone else’s bucket list, but I am still going to try to convince you to change up your bucket list a bit! Most people I have asked about their bucket list have rather big things on it. Things like ‘walk the great wall of China’, ‘visit Europe’, ‘learn a new language’, ‘go surfing’, ‘see a lion in the wild’ etc. These are all amazing things and if you put your mind to it, most of these things can be crossed off at some point (the person who eats all my food, for instance, is very excited that with the way things are going, he might actually be able to cross of ”go to space” in his lifetime. So never say never!).
Not all the things on your list need to costs money or be a bit more challenging to accomplish though. My requirement for putting something on my bucket lists is only this: is this something that makes me happy and excited about life? If the answer is yes, it is going on my bucket list! So on my list, you will also find things like ‘spend an afternoon looking for shells on the beach’, ‘take a walk in the snow’, ‘watch a sunset’, ‘stay up all night having fun with your best friend’ or ‘take a moment to enjoy a beautiful day when you feel busy’.
Things you have already done
Aside from the things that I hope to do at some point, I also add the things that I have already been able to do. I write them down, add the date from when I did them, and cross them off. For me, it is a good way to appreciate everything that I have been able to enjoy in my life.
Bucket List articles
If I am lucky, I hope to be able to inspire you or give you some good ideas to put on your own bucket list. I will try to do this by writing a series of articles, based on my own bucket list. In the ”Bucket List Item” series you will find articles about things that I have done in the past, things that I am currently doing and things that I would really like to do (and hopefully I will be able to update the article!). I would love for you to tell me more about the things you would like to do, see and experience and if you have suggestions for anyone who might read this. I hope that you will enjoy the Bucket List Articles and share your experiences!
